CPP Characters and Integers

Characters and Integers

  • The primitive type char is an integer with a maximum value of 255 occupying a byte
  • As this is true any integer type variable can be casted to a char type using only the lowest part of the integer as the character:
    Source code Result
    // Printing Characters Based on Numbers.
    #include <iostream>
    int main(){
      for (int i = 32; i<128; i++)
        // casting int i to a char type
        std::cout << (char) i;
      return 0;

    You can download this example here (needed tools can be found in the right menu on this page).

    \r Carrige return
